Where you’ll be after two hours
Most people meet Scrum by being dropped into it, picking up words like sprint and backlog from whoever happens to be sitting nearby. The reasons turn up much later, if at all. Here is what the free Scrum course leaves you with instead.
Tell the three roles apart
Product Owner, Scrum Master, Developers. More usefully, you start noticing the teams that have quietly smudged all three into one.
What the five events are actually for
Enough to tell a real Sprint Review from a status meeting wearing a friendlier name, which is a more common disguise than you would think.
Artefacts, in plain words
Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Increment, and the commitment sitting behind each one.
Whether certification is worth your money
By the end you will know if a paid credential helps with the job you actually want, and which of them fits. We are not pushing you either way.
If any of this sounds like your week
- You’ve just joined a team that already runs Scrum, and everyone assumes you know how it works.
- Scrum teams sit either side of you, and you’d like to be more use to them than you are now.
- You picked Scrum up as you went. Nobody ever laid the framework out for you.
- There’s a paid certification in the back of your mind, and you’d rather try the subject before paying for it.
No experience needed. This free Scrum course explains every term the first time it turns up.
The seven modules inside this free Scrum course
Open any module to see what’s inside. Twenty activities run across the free Scrum course, so each idea gets used before you move on to the next one.
01 Welcome, and why Scrum existsThe problem the framework was built to solve
A short orientation, and the case for Scrum in the first place.
02 Agile values, principles and empiricismThe thinking the whole framework rests on
Empiricism means deciding on what has happened, not on what was forecast. Transparency, inspection and adaptation are how Scrum builds that in.
Most team trouble traces back to one of those three breaking. So you learn to name the broken one before you learn the mechanics.
03 The Scrum frameworkThree, five, three, and how the pieces connect
Three accountabilities, five events, three artefacts. You’ll see why removing any one of them breaks the rest.
04 Scrum rolesWho owns what, and where teams get it wrong
The three accountabilities in practice, plus the patterns you’ll recognise. The Scrum Master running the team like a project manager. The Product Owner nobody can find. Developers who don’t own their own plan.
05 Scrum eventsWhat each one is for, and what a good one looks like
The Sprint, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective. You’ll learn the purpose of each, and how to tell when one has drifted into a status update.
06 Scrum artefactsBacklogs, the Increment, and Definition of Done
Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog and Increment, plus the Product Goal, Sprint Goal and Definition of Done.
This is where most teams argue. So this is where the course gets specific.
07 Finishing upYour certificate and official RSB badge
A wrap-up, a short feedback survey, and your credentials.
Why I made this Scrum course free
Registered Scrum Trainer, certified by Scrum Inc.
See the listing
I’ve spent years inside Australian organisations, trying to get agile working with real teams in real rooms.
The same thing kept happening. Someone sits through Sprint Planning nodding along, quietly unsure what a Sprint Goal is actually for. Nobody wants to be the one who puts their hand up and asks.
So I built this free Scrum course to answer that question before anyone has to ask it. You shouldn’t have to pay to find out whether Scrum makes sense to you.
Give it two hours. If you want to go further afterwards, we’ll be here.

The things people ask first
Is it genuinely free?
Yes. The free Scrum course has no card to enter and no paywall halfway through. You create an account on ScrumCraft Academy and start.
When can I start?
Now. There is no next intake to wait for, because the course is self-paced. Create an account and the first module opens straight away.
How long will it take me?
There are 58 minutes of video plus the activities, so most people finish the free Scrum course in about two hours. It’s self-paced, so you can stop after a module and come back next week.
What do I walk away with?
A certificate of completion and your official Registered Scrum Basics badge for LinkedIn, which is a Scrum Inc. credential. Every module also comes with a slide pack you can download and keep.
How does this compare with CSM or PSM?
It isn’t a rival to either. CSM and PSM are practitioner credentials that cost money and take a couple of days. A free Scrum course like this one is the foundation you’d want first.
Turning up to a paid class already fluent in the vocabulary means you spend those two days on the hard problems, not the definitions.
Do I need any Scrum experience?
None at all. We assume you’re starting from zero and explain every term the first time it appears.
Can my whole team take it together?
Yes, and it works nicely as shared groundwork before instructor-led training, because everyone arrives with the same vocabulary. Get in touch if you’d like to coordinate a group.
Seven modules, about two hours, and it won’t cost you anything
The next time someone says “we’ll sort it in the retro”, you’ll know exactly what they mean.
