“Progress is not achieved by luck or accident, but by working on yourself daily.”
Epictetus
In agile, this mirrors principle #12 “At regular intervals, the team reflects on how to become more effective, then tunes and adjusts its behaviour accordingly”. Just as we work on ourselves daily to progress in life, agile teams thrive on regularly reflecting on their processes, practices, and behaviours to become more and more effective every day. This discipline and its dedication to growth ensures that agility is not just a way of working, but a mindset and way of being.
Practical application: Implement a daily 5-minute retrospective at the end of each day for one week. Ask your team – What moved us towards our goal today, What slowed us down, and What did we lean and should we implement tomorrow to be even more effective.
This is more of a conversation rather than a formal meeting. Bringing attention to opportunities for growth brings amazing and surprising results, just by making them visible or verbalising them. Compare your effectiveness to that from the beginning of the week. Decide to keep going or do something different.
Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement in your workplace.
